Hi everyone!
As you may know, I’m already in London! Life in here is delightful and working and living here has given me the opportunity of making new friends.Samuel Johnson is now a friend of mine, and he is also new in this thing of publishing at the Gentleman's Magazine. He is very nice with me and provides me with good advice. His works are really good and I've written some praises towards them, as he does with mines. We usually go to St. John’s Gate to have dinner with Mr. Cave and Mr. Birch. Mr. Cave works as a publisher in the Gentleman’s Magazine and is friends with my father, and Mr. Birch is a clergyman. They both help us with our work and we’ve become something of a family. It’s great to have people like them in your life.
Since we are at the end of November, you’ll be wondering what I’ve done all this months: well, I’ve been working in some translations, and one of them was published just a week ago. It is my translation of Horace’s Ode 10, Book II. If you have the opportunity to read it, don’t hesitate contacting me to give your opinion, it’s always welcome! Moreover, in August, Mr. Cave published a slim quarto with some of my poems under the name of Poems upon Particular Occasions. They were just some copies for my friends and patrons, but still, it's good notice!
Other thing that I enjoyed a lot was a visit I made to the Pope’s Gardens in July. You know I love walking along beautiful landscapes, so we took a walk along delightful meadows from Richmond to Twickenham and ended up in there. It was so beautiful! They really inspired me and touched my soul. Here I post a photo I took. Totally recommended! Worth it.
I also have to say that I am currently working in something. It is a translation from the Italian Francesco Algarotti’s Il Newtonianismo per le dame. My friend Mr. Birch knows Algarotti’s personally, and they had a conversation about me being the most suitable translator for that work. I hope to have it finished by February next year. I will tell you how it goes!
Take care,
Elizabeth.
